My Creative Life: From A to Z

I stole this idea from my Biz BFF, Britt Hyatt, because I just thought this was such a fun way to get creative and share a little peek into my daily life. You should try it, too!

A- ADOBE. Duh. I’m a designer. I use Adobe Creative Cloud every day and I would be so lost without it. (Cue Robin Thicke’s ‘Lost Without You’ as I serenade Adobe Illustrator.)

B- Buffalo Bills hat. Laugh all you want, I’m a loyal fan.

C- Café Bustelo cans. We drink a lot of Bustelo in this household, and I save the cans to organize my art supplies!

D- Date Ball. This is a fun little totem I received from my Aunt years ago. She loves thrifting and she found me this retro Magic Date Ball, which is just fantastic. Need I say more?

E- Excelsior Poster. This is a poster of a vintage sewing machine ad…bonus points if you know what TV show it’s from!

F- Fresh Start Book. This is what I’ve been using to plan out my entire year. At the end of December, I sat down with this book and worked through some pretty intense reflections of 2016. (Check it out here!)

G- Gerber daisies. They’re fake ones, but that counts, right? Gerber daisies are my fave and these artificial beauts will never wilt.

H- Home Sweet Hyatt. I don't go a day without talking to Britt Hyatt of Home Sweet Hyatt Studios. She's my Biz BFF and if you don't know that by now, where have you been?

I- iPad Pro. I’ll be honest, I really don’t use this as much as I should. I got the Pro and Pencil last year because it seemed so necessary for my work. But, I have yet to invest the time to mastering it, so I’ve still mostly been using my old trusted techniques. It's capabilities are absolutely amazing, though.

J- Java. Lots and lots of java. Oh..no, I don’t code. I’m talking about COFFEE, BABY.

K- Kitty Johnson, my 2.5 year-old tuxedo cat. Unless I kick her out of the room for being too distracting, she’s usually sitting in the window, sleeping under the bed, licking herself on the floor, or walking all over everything on my desk.

L- Lunch break. Ahh, my beloved lunch break. This is the one constant in my daily routine. The time I take it varies, but I always allow myself at least an hour to step away from work and enjoy my lunch. I often use this as incentive to finish certain tasks in the morning, too. Wouldn’t ya know, food is the best motivator for me! ;)

M- Masquerade mask. I’ve got a fancy mask displayed from that one time I attended a Murder Mystery dinner with my friend, Alyssa

N- Netflix. Obviously. My boo thang. I can’ t go a day without some Netflix by my side.

O- Old Spice. What? I was stuck on “O” and I figured you guys should know that I use men’s deodorant. You're welcome.

P- Postcards. From Thailand, Germany, The Netherlands, China, Russia, Indonesia, India, and beyond. (Ever heard of Postcrossing? You sign up for free and swap postcards with people all over the world. It’s amazing.)

Q- Quill pen. I’m talking a legit feather pen like in the old days. I barely use it but I feel fancy af just having it near me.

R- Relentless Brewing glass. In case you don’t know this by now, I’m a beer snob. I love craft beer. This past year, I had the opportunity to create a new logo, along with multiple new merch designs for a brewery here in California. I proudly have one of the glasses displayed on my desk.

S- Seltzer Water. (Most likely coconut La Croix.) I hopped on to the La Croix bandwagon super late. I’ve been seeing it all over Instagram and chalked it up to being a trendy beverage. But this year, when I started trying to be healthier, THIS BABY SAVED MY LIFE. Not only is it delicious, but it has ZERO calories, sweeteners, sodium, etc. It’s straight up water with carbonation and natural flavor. Google confirmed that seltzer water is just as hydrating as still water, and the carbonation actually makes you feel more satiated. Doubly whammy, my friends. Double. Whammy.

T- Tombow Pens. I’ve got a shit ton. Every color of the rainbow and then some.

U- USA Map. I’ve got a blank map of the US printed out and hung above my desk. Every time I work with a client from a specific state, I color that state in on the map. Hopefully someday all 50 will be filled in!

V- Vinyl. Lots and lots of vinyl records. I own two record players and I collect albums new and old. Popping in a record during the day is a fun way to break up the monotony (plus, it makes me get up every once in a while to flip it over!)

W- Wedding Planner. For those of you who don’t know, I’m engaged! I’ve been using The Knot Wedding Planner (it’s a huge binder) to keep track of everything and it’s so friggin’ exciting.

X- Xylophone! X-Ray! …haha, kidding.  This one’s tough…I’m gonna get creative here and say “x” marks on my to-do list! (No matter how many amazing apps come out for this sort of thing, I will always love my paper lists.)

Y- Yeti Cup. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to jump on this train. My sister in law got me a 30oz. Yeti cup for Christmas and I can’t get enough of it. This thing keeps my water cold all day (and it’s personalized, too).

Z-  Zoom. I use this platform occasionally to have meetings with clients. I love it because you can use video chat, share your screens, and even record the meeting!

Well, now you've gotten a glimpse into my daily life. Which ones were the most interesting to you? What would some of your letters be? Share with me in the comments below!
